Unlike normal paint, stain only comes in a flat sheen. But that doesn’t mean you can’t add a coat of clear coat afterwards to add a little extra protection to your wooden patio furniture.

Flat stains are ideal for weathered and worn wood. They help cover up any imperfections that exist and offer vibrant colours.

What Finish Should I Choose for My Stain?

Translucent stains are the ideal choice if you want the natural wood grain to show through. However, this finish will also amplify any imperfections that exist.
Semi-transparent and semi-solid stains bridge the gap between solid and translucent finishes. These stains will show some of the natural wood grain.
Solid stains are similar to other Benjamin Moore paints and will hide most of the natural wood grain.
